More Holidays!

Happy Eid al Fitr to our Islamic readers! And remember, just 'cause you've been fasting for a month doesn't give you license to eat a bunch of carbs.

Ramadan

Thee hee! Have you been to people's houses in Eid? They treat you like a criminal if you don't eat any of the millions of deserts they serve! I am happy to report I managed to avoid it all though I think I did break some hearts!
The fasting during Ramadan is only from sunrise to sunset. We do get to break fast at sunset so we don't fast the entire month with no breaks. This Ramadan was my first going fully low carb and it was a challenge. We wake up before sunrise to eat and traditionally it is carb fest. Knowing what I know about carbs now it doesn't make sense to load up on carbs that will get digested in a flash and send your blood sugar crashing down. I ate cheese or eggs or some sort of meat or chicken.
It is traditional to go to other people's houses for dinner during Ramadan. So imagine having to deal with Thanksgiving dinner on a daily basis! Temptations galore! When you think you survived the dinner, out come the deserts! Let me tell you Middle Eastern folk are very, very hospitable and they will insist and insist and insist that you try what they are serving you. My favourite line is "oh break your diet at my house, then you'll continue on." Right, because everybody else is not telling me the same thing! The only carb I ate was a single date to break my fast each day, it is traditional to do so. Now that Ramadan is over I am done with that as well!
This is my first time commenting but I have been a reader since lowcarbezine e-mail days. Love your cookbooks. Mmmm for perfect protein pancakes and yay for learning how to do a perfect omelette each time.
