Not An IF Day...

Saturday we went down to a campground a half-hour south of here to hang out with old friends. I wasn't at all sure there'd be any food I wanted to eat, so I had 4 fried eggs at 2, and took along the energy bars I'd made, along with a bag of the yummy, crunchy Golden Flake pork cracklin's. Ate a couple of energy bars during the afternoon/evening, and also about half the bag of cracklin's. Turned out our friends offered us some beanless chili, and very nice it was, too. That was all during my food window. I ate another energy bar when we got home after midnight, 'cause we'd been drinking, and I figured it might help ward off a hangover.

Which it seems to have; I was only a little headachy in the morning, nothing one ibuprofen and plenty of tea didn't fix.

But sadly, I got another lesson in "Dana's reached an age where drinking instantly makes her gain weight." I was up two pounds. This put me at an unacceptable weight.

So instead of my new IF way of eating, I went more radical, with what we call a Steak Day. On a Steak Day I eat nothing until 6 pm (except sometimes some shirataki noodles with soy sauce). Then I eat a steak and some sliced tomatoes. Nothing else. Only beverages are tea (hot and iced, regular and decaf) and sparkling water. Never fails to knock a pound and a half to two pounds off of me in a day.

And it worked, I was a pound and a half lighter this morning. But because I ate so little yesterday (less than 1000 calories, and less than 10g of carb), and because I stopped eating earlier than usual, I was ravenous by 11 am.

So I ate breakfast, and today I've been having an all-meat day, nothing but meat and eggs (and a handful of CarbSmart chocolate chips, I confess.) I'll have some chicken right before 8 pm, and be back on my IF schedule tomorrow.

I'm just mad that I can't have a glass or two of wine in the evenings any more. I've now designated Thursday and Saturday nights "Dana Can Have Some Wine" nights. Other than that? Nope, unless it's a very special occasion. Or a cruise.

Argh.

IF Schedule

Hi Dana. I too lately have been loving Marksdailyapple and recently read his book. He's inspired me to lift weights (a little) and prioritize my sleep and feel like I'm doing something really good for both of us when I walk the dog (instead of feeling guilty that it's not more intense exercise).

I'm really enjoying your IF experiments and info. Do you mind reminding me what your schedule is -- is it every day eating window from 2 to 6pm? I have been mixing a 24 hours schedule (breakfast and lunch one day followed by just dinner the next and then repeat) with a dinner only daily window and I'm trying to figure out which is best. I get a little heartburn which wakes me up sometimes at night when I do the dinner only schedule (maybe the dinner is just too big). Have you noticed better sleep while IF'ing, any shakiness from cortisol?

Thanks for your thoughts and I just love the website upgrade! Sally

Not an IF day

Wine has the opposite effect on me!! Over a long weekend with my family in another state I ate completely carb filled food followed by a glass of wine. When I returned home 4 days later I was terrified to step on the scale....I had lost 5 lbs.

I am still trying to figure out how that happened.

I Don't Know

But if you figure it out, bottle it, and I'll buy it.
