I've mentioned that I'm a huge fan of Mark Sisson's Mark's Daily Apple blog. Today there's an abstract from a medical journal article regarding paleo nutrition.
On the low carb cruise this past March, I was assigned the job of speaking to the future of low carbing. Not having any expertise with crystal balls or tea leaves (except to make tea), I pretty much made it up as I went along from what I've been seeing in and around the low carb world, and nutrition circles. One of the things I said was that I saw the paleolithic nutrition movement growing, and that it seemed to me that quite a lot of the benefit of low carb diets came from getting closer to the "factory specified" hunter-gatherer diet, and that I expected that the low carb and paleo movements would eventually merge to some degree.
I'm not sure I'm going to completely give up Splenda, but I use fewer and fewer low carb grain products such as low carb tortillas, as I become convinced that carbs aren't the only detrimental substance they bring to the table, so to speak. And I've been minimizing my use of any vegetable oils but coconut; I pretty much save olive oil for salads anymore.
The paleo movement and the low carb movement are fellow travelers, headed in the same direction. I might add to those the burgeoning small-farm movement, of folks raising pastured eggs, grass-fed meat, organic vegetables, and other traditional foods. And a fine thing for everyone's health it all is.
Ooo, Look!
